3 Things You Should Know About Rapid HIV Testing

The Rapid HIV Test is an immunoassay that can detect antibodies to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in whole blood, serum, or plasma. It is most often used as an initial screening test for people at risk for HIV infection and may be exposed to it. Rapid testing provides results in 20-40 minutes, which is considerably faster than conventional ELISA tests that provide results in 2-4 hours. It has been proven to be 99% accurate when compared with Western Blot confirmatory testing.
In this article, we will discuss three things you should know

1- Rapid HIV testing is a new way to determine if you have been infected with the virus.
2- They are also referred to as “point-of-care” or “rapid antibody” tests.
3-It detects an individual’s immunity against the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). These rapid tests produce results in 20 minutes and diagnose much faster than conventional testing methods – which can take up to three months!

Rapid HIV Testing is recommended for anyone who has had exposure to blood, semen, vaginal fluids, or breast milk from someone living with HIV. This includes healthcare professionals, health care support staff, and laboratory technicians who contact bodily fluids on a routine basis.
