Wherever there are whales, you can find whale watching companies and working for one can be exciting. Many people take a job on a whale watching boat as a part time summer job, although it’s possible to be employed full time. There are several different employment options, and you don’t necessarily have to work on board a ship if you work in ticket sales or administration. However, much of the appeal of the work is the chance to work on board ship, and depending on the position, you’ll need to be able to operate or repair a small ship, or be accustomed to talking to groups of varying sizes. An interest in marine life is clearly a plus, as is an outgoing personality. Keep in mind that many tours operate in weather that isn’t always perfect, and being a good sailor is an important requirement.
