Rules For Finding Buried Treasure

None of us really expect to find pirate treasure buried on the local beach but the idea of stumbling across a stash of rare old gold coins is something that nobody would be interested in turning down. Even if we just find one in the back of our grandfather’s sock drawer, it is important to know how to capitalize on this sudden burst of good fortune.

The first thing to remember is that these coins are usually worth more as art than they are as gold. You wouldn’t want to touch up a copy of the Mona Lisa if you came across one, and the same rule applies here. Never, ever clean or polish one of these old coins until you have shown them to a professional dealer.

You could literally cost yourself a fortune if you were to buff up your discovery. Handle it carefully by the edges and do nothing to alter the coin.
