Mental Health First Aid

We often think of first aid as something that we give to people who are injured or suffering from acute physical pain. This initial help is meant to minimize the danger before experts arrive to provide intensive treatment.

However, many are realizing that we should also learn about mental health first aid to help those who are developing mental health issues or dealing with a crisis until they can get professional treatment.

The first aid may be useful in cases where a person is suffering from anxiety, psychosis, depression, substance abuse, gambling issues, and eating disorders. It could also be applied for panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, aggressive behaviors, and the like.

With early care, people can have better outcomes. Training is available to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills that they can use to help others until treatment is available.
