To fight the gender imbalance in decision making there have been moves to promote women in leadership roles. Following are some reasons women make good leaders:
• Women are better at motivating others – studies have shown that women are more adept at leading through inspiration and by changing people’s attitudes and beliefs. This means they are better at aligning people with meaning and purpose in the decisions they make, rather than the punishment/reward approach favored by men.
• Women display more empathy – rather than commanding, women are better at making an emotional connection with those they lead in order to convince them of the rightness of a decision.
• Women elevate others – female leaders have demonstrated they are better at mentoring, coaching and developing the skills of others that they lead. This means they can unlock other peoples’ potential and have more effective cooperation in their teams.
