What You Need To Know About Modern Slavery

You may not believe it or think it’s real, but slavery is alive and well, and it’s becoming a global pandemic. But what is modern slavery?

Human trafficking, also known as modern-day slavery, is defined as “the use of force, fraud or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act,” according to Homeland Security.

The two most common forms of modern-day slavery are labor trafficking and sex trafficking. Labor trafficking occurs when a person is forced or coerced to work in a domestic, factory, or manual labor setting with little or no pay. Sex trafficking is one of the fastest-growing forms of modern slavery. It involves force, fraud, or coercion for a sex act in trade for anything of value.

Other forms of modern-day slavery include forced child labor,
unlawful recruitment and use of child soldiers, and debt bondage.
