What You Need To Know About Female Veterans

Female veterans are an important part of the American military, but they often go unnoticed. Female Veterans Day is held every year on November 11th to commemorate their contributions. Female veterans had come a long way since 1775, when Deborah Sampson disguised herself as a man to fight in the Revolutionary War.

After World War II and the Korean Conflict, female soldiers were given many opportunities but still faced discrimination due to gender roles. The Vietnam Era saw women in combat for the first time; however, this was met with protest by some who said it would hurt unit cohesion. Despite these barriers, female vets continue to serve our country proudly today!

Female veterans are a unique subset of the population. Yet, they are often overlooked when talking about women in society. They have had to overcome many obstacles throughout their lives, not only during military service but also after returning home from war. They may be particularly vulnerable to health risks because of this additional stress they experience on top of what other civilian women go through.
