What Is IT Management?

Information Technology (IT) management refers to the process of managing all aspects of computing and other technology resources in an organization in accordance with its business needs and priorities. IT management is applied to all physical resources including computer hardware, software, data, networks and data centers as well as the people that run and maintain these resources. It includes functions such as budgeting, staffing, managing changes, organizing and controlling activities as well as functions that are specific to information technology such as software design, network structure planning and technical support.

The am of IT management is to generate the maximum value possible from technology and to ensure that business strategies and technology are aligned to result in the organization’s goals being met. Creating value for an organization involves using technology management as a creative, collaborative and synergistic process with the rest of the business rather than simply being a mechanistic method of control.
