PV Symptoms And Diagnosis

Too many red blood cells in the body can actually be dangerous, and it can potentially affect anyone, although men over 60 are more vulnerable to the condition, known as Polycythemia Vera, or PV. There are some common symptoms of PV, including excess bleeding, dizziness, redness of the skin, and itching, especially after a bath or shower. However, for accurate PV diagnosis, you’ll need an examination from your doctor, especially as most of these symptoms can be signs of other conditions. Your doctor will probably carry out a blood test to eliminate other blood diseases, and may check your blood pressure and perhaps carry out a bone marrow test, as well as looking at your overall medical history. PV is rare; only about 2 in every 100,000 have this form of blood cancer although it can be fatal, if it isn’t accurately diagnosed and treated.
