Indian food definitely takes some getting used to, although contrary to popular belief it isn’t all spicy and hot. If it’s your first time eating in an Indian restaurant, some dishes are better to try than others, including tandoori chicken, an oven roasted chicken with some spices added for flavor, and chicken korma, another fairly mild dish. Most restaurants serving Indian food offer a choice of vegetarian dishes, and one popular menu item is pakora, a fried fritter containing a variety of vegetables. Dahi puri are little bite sized snacks, made with vegetables and different spices and are another safe dish to order if you feel a little overwhelmed. Many restaurants will make you a less spicy version of something on their menu, and of course if you can find a restaurant with a buffet, it’s the ideal way to sample Indian food.
