The Derwent pencil is among the most used by artists. The leads have a soft wax core of 3.4 mm making it easy to blend the colors. The core is secured with a 6.9 hexagonal wooden barrel which is comfortable to grip between the fingers lending itself to easy manipulation for drawing simple lines and blending on its side.
Derwent pencils come in a wide variety of colors and hardness of leads. Sketch graphic drawing pencils in black lead come in 2B to 8B, F, HB, H, 2H, 3H, and 4H. Sets can be purchased with all the varying levels of hardness or with fewer pieces. Derwent colored pencil sets come sets of 6, 11, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 72 pieces. The sets are placed in convenient packages, metal tins or wooden boxes. Artists can begin with fewer pieces in a set and blend colors to achieve additional hues or they have the option to buy larger sets with a larger number of colors.
