An Overview Of Disability Management

Disability management refers to a set of practices and procedures that are used when people are absent from work as a result of illness, disability of injury and seeks to help them with these as well as preventing risks that cause them. The aim is to reduce the impacts of disability on both the individual and their employer.

In employment, managing disability mainly refers to how employers deal with workers’ disability in the workplace which can include taking measures to prevent it occurring, support for employees returning to work after a disabling event, providing necessary accommodations in the workplace and controlling the cost effectiveness of services provided. Certified disability specialists are employed to deal with these workplace issues and to ensure that employees do not suffer discrimination as a result of their disability which can negatively effect both individuals and the community in general.
